My first getai show for this year @ AMK Blk 543

I was at AMK B543 watching getai yesterday night. It was a last minute decision. Mum asked me if i wanted to go to watch 600 (liu ling ling) getai at AMK B543. I just said ok lol.

When we reached there, it was 人山人海. I cannot see the performance but i can hear loud and clear what 600 was saying. I really love 600 - funny, quick-thinking and full of fun. The way she talked really make the whole performance outstanding.

I manged to get a look at 600 - only a bit at the stage somehow. There were heads everywhere and the stage was at tiny area. If the stage was at a open field, we can see what the performers were doing.

For yesterday performers, i only know 'xiao mingzhu sister'. The rest i did not know them or bother to know as i do not really enjoy their performance. The only person that i like is 660 so that is the reason why i went out with mum at close to 9pm to watch getai at AMK 543. Mum was saying how little dressed a Chine performer was wearing --- eye candy for man but ***puke puke*** for mum and me.

I will be helping at my company 'zhong yuan jie' this sunday. excited as i will get to know more about how zhong yuan jie is done, this is my first time involving in a 7th month zhong yuan jie. Feel tired as i heard that after the auction, we need to clear everything till very late. Happy as we will get 'big hongbao'... hee....

SHE - 中国话 and 台湾话

I was showing mum Hokkein video songs in youtube when i came across SHE latest song, 中国话. I was very surprised to see another version of that song that is called 台湾话. The taiwan version was modified by another person and sing by an unknown person called JC.

I do love the taiwan version better as it is more related to the popular Hokkein folk songs that my mum love to play and i love to hear.

At last, there is finally a getai movie

I had not watched 881 but i think it is a good movie from the numerous reviews on newspaper. i think i should wait for the VCD instead

I felt that this movie is nice because:

Firstly, it reflect how getai work in singapore....

Secondly, it make people appreciate their dialect more - in this case, if u noticed, getai songs are always in Hokkein and i can understand hokkein...

Thirdly, it make me love hokkein songs as well.

This is sung by a Malaysian singer, xiao fengfeng. The song said the life of an ill-fated woman using lotus sing in 12 months, one lotus for each month saying how hard and difficult life is for the woman.

Actually mum got dozens of CD from taiwan and singapore Hokkein singers. Mum's favourite singer is the late 'Chen Jinlang' that was very famous in Getai too till his death last year from cancer. If u read the news, 881 - the movie is dedicated to the late chen jinlang. I wonder why mum's favourite hokkein singer is not the 'mingzhu sisters' that helped to sing the songs in 881 for the characters of the Papaya sisters. Frankly speaking, i did not listen to any songs sung by mingzhu sister until this movie came out. I remember in one interview, one of the producers of 881 said that mingzhu sister produced CDs that are more than the now popular sun yanzi. I am now "huh, is it so? how come i do not really remember their songs".


The thing about Understand Hokkein and listening to Hokkein songs are two different things - i can under what ppl speak in Hokkein but when songs are concerned, i can only half-understand the songs. The subtitle really help a lot.

The song from 881 is really nice - bit of hokkein and lot sing in chinese.

My self-made earrings for bazaar @ Hong Kah North CC

Hi people,

If you had read sister's blog, you will know about this Sunday Bazzar @ Hong Kah North CC. Sister's friend, S had came to our house to teach me how to make earrings.

I had made 12 pairs after my 'teacher' had passed me the skill of making earrings. I had decided to give them names. if u spotted them This sunday at the bazzar, please show your support by buying. Well, of course, u can buy any of the earrings made by S and sister. Maybe if u are interested, post here to buy from me online. If no one wants it, i got 12 pairs of earrings for 12 months of the year...ha ha....

Blood new names for our new addition

Blood had finally came back from Germany @ Thursday. He had new names for our new addition that he had never seen before.

xian xian is called '小黑鼻子' (Little black nose)

Vesak is called '小黑' (Little black)

Xiami is not 'new' to blood but xiami hiss at blood and hide behind my bed

Hehe is called '小老虎' (Little tiger)

Blood had bought lot of cat stuff from Germany. Will be taking photos of them once i got hold of the missing camera.Blood had also bought 'Harry potter book 7' for only Euro 17.95 that is around Singapore dollars $36.
