My lovely Community Cats

Jennifer say:

Photobucket

I had seldom take any photos of the community cats that i had taken care of for the past 3 years. Nowaday whenever i came back from watching Getai, i tried to take some photos of them in their most innocent moment.

Money Kia - Siamese cross, she has been in the street since last year. She's mum favourite cat.
Mimi - a white and black tabby, he was abandoned as a small kitten since 2005, jan. We had been taking care of mimi for the past 4 years. He's sweet baby

PaPa (to be pronounced as Pipa) - a big ginger male cat, abandoned at shengsong area in Year 2006 but someone take him over to our area, a fierce ginger cat that is only local to us, human friends.

Nursing Fake Nut Nut

Jennifer say:

Photobucket

On 28/9, sister found Fake Nut nut to have a tumour growth ear. From the appearance, we predicted that Nut nut had fought with another community cat. So sister bought him home. Sister bought Nut nut to the vet. The growth actually burst and this is a good sight as this meant that the growth is not something more serious like cancer. We kept Nut nut at home for almost 2 weeks before releasing Nut nut to his usual place last saturday, 17/10/2009. Nut Nut is quite a big silly boy, just lies down and look look at his other friends (my other cats).

Nut nut most silly action is he tried to pee at our sitting toilet bowl and his hind legs dropped into the toilet bowl. Quite smart actually as he knew how to use the toilet to do his daily business. We did enjoy having him in the house but unfortunately toward the end of his recovery, he keep standing at the gate and meow - he want to return home. So finally sister released nut nut back last saturday.

A bit about Fake Nut nut history, he is a clone of the real nut nut. The real nut nut had since found a home in our block. When real nut nut disappeared, dad had found fake nut nut and thought this is the real nut nut we all missed. However, it turned out that fake nut nut is a boy while the real nut nut is a girl. So confusing of me to type so many nut nuts stories but this is how our dear fake nut nut got his name.

She's Not MIA

Jennifer say:

Photobucket
If you guys happen to visit sister blog on http://kucingcoast.blogspot.com/2009/06/grinning-cat.html, you will know we had help to sterilize Ding Ding Mei.

Right after we returned her to the street for at most 1 month plus, DingDIng Mei Went MIA. We all thought she's gone for good like many of our park's cats.

However, just saturday, after mum and I returned from watching getai, mum saw a cat at Blk 547 and asked me whom the cat was. I was abt to reply mum that it may be blackie, another female sterilzied cat when mum said that she is Ding Ding Mei.

So happy to see DingDing mei again. Sister had took many photos of DingDing mei in her camera. Ding DIng mei is now vvvv XXX L - like xiami that kind - round like ballloon. hee...

Cats in the News Today

Jennifer say:

Photobucket

I got this article from wobao. A summary of this article is how this cat was saved by Vegan & Meowies by putting the cat for adoption after sterilizing the female cat. What i do not liked about this article is the reply made by AVA head: “It would be good if those who feed stray cats could find homes for them.”

This misconcept is the same made by both cat lovers and cat haters.

Cat Lover Misconcept:If you want to love the cats, do not feed them, take them home with you.

I had read one particular cat lover blogger whom i shall not named her, her thinking is that if you love the cat, take the cats home, do not feed it (There are a whole lot of her own explanation as to why we should not feed outside cat that i will not list down as it make my blood boil too to think of that). Anyway i had boycotted her blog after reading this distasteful topic. Given that her blog had quite a number of hits daily, i wonder how many of her readers would also have this misconcept. If given the choice, which animal want to be wandering in the street trying to survive, trying to find shelter or food? Those animals previously do have homes but were abandoned, i do not understand why would a cat lover said this in her blog. Cats increased bacause they were not sterilized so it just added on the the number of so called stray cats in the street. Without food, they will try to find means and way to survive. We can only do little as to help by sterilizing them and feeding them responsiblity as in to clear whatever paper after we feed them.

Cat Hater Misconcept: Take all the cats that you feed home

I think every cat feeders had this words being said to them but for me, i had not encountered anyone saying this hurtful words.

Hmm.. except for Two encounter - Once was when a young lady asked us to take the cats we feed to SPCA because someone will adopt all cats that is send there. I think this young lady is not familiar with the statistic as to how cats are put to sleep daily in both SPCA and AVA.

The second encounter happen only recently when a woman staying in the 2nd storey warned us not to leave the food in the drain and reminded us that there are security camera around us. Nothing much to say to this idiotic woman whom is staying at the area closer to the central rubbish area and where security camera only face the lift area, not on the rubbish area. I was telling sister that i will change a new carrier that i used to carry the cat food so that ppl will not remember us going around to feed the cats. I think i should not use a red carrier.

With limited space, it is impossible to take every cats you see on the street home. The reply in the above mentioned article by AVA head had mentioned we find home for the cats we feed. Of course, we wish we can do that but how? We are actually doing sh** job for those irresponsible ppl whom are abandoing their home cats in the street. How is it possible to find home for each cat that ppl throw in the street. It is like a never ending cycle - you try to find home for one cat, another cat is abandone in the street. And finding a home for cat is not a matter of days, it can delay into months. I find that most female cats are abandoned into the street - a act when the cat is on heat and the stupid owner refused to sterilize the cat.

Ok. I had made enough review on today news. Sister is feeding mimi and friends today so i am quite free to blog..Happy meows..

Lazy Blogger Me & My cats

Jennifer say:

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

I am rather lazy nowaday in blogging. Firstly, i had too lazy to take any photos of my community cats. Secondly, i am lazy to upload pictures of my home cats as the blogger keep hanging whenever i tried to upload photos - picasa is not working well also.

Anyway so here is a boring update of my community cats without any photos:

1) Mimi has migrated to another block across the road from his usual hiding place. We took 1 and a half month before we found his new hideout.

2) There are 3 newly abandaned cats near mimi hideout - xiaguo ( a ginger male sterilized last year), silly ah gong (gong as in silly in hokkein - another ginger male same age as xiaguo and lastly a brown tabby male. Xiaguo and ah gong are hanging to each other so far while the third male cat is always M.I.A but still around.

3) Wang zia had serious ringworm problem but that silly boy now refused to come to find us. We also do not know how to apply the medicine that sister had bought for him when wangzai refused to come near us now.

4) Ginger and PaPa are now two fat, round ginger cats.

5) Koala has a younger son. A 3 months old kitten that hang around with him. Koala is quite sweet when his 'son' play war game with him - Koala not only do not mind his son biting him, he also allow his 'son' to hang him by his claws.

6) Fake NaNa is still around very near to mimi hideout. We just found out yesterday that there is something wrong with nana one eye as it is not diluted in the dark as like normal cats. But he is still walking very normally.

7) Seaweed is another beautiful female cat is a good friend of mimi.

8) Ringring still appear near the nearby park sometimes. She is a rare ginger girl with a meow similar to my sweetie.

I had not seen baby, xiaobai and cubby cubby for quite long time as i had not went near their hideout near the carpark in the park.

Money Gia (Baby Money)

Jennifer say:

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

If you read sister's blog, u may have knew about little Money Gia.

We first saw Baby money (female version of our big fat Male Money) in the BBQ area opposite our block at around the second week of Year 2008.

We saw her playing with korla ( a big male cat) and another baby newly abandoned kitten (around 1 month old only - we only saw her/him twice before it disappeared).

We tried to go to find Baby Money whenever we went to feed our downstairs cats. We only saw Baby Money near us but did not wanted to come to us for food three or four times.

On that particular day, sister mentioned that someone was looking for a siamese X as their only Siamese X had died. Sister thought of that newly abandoned Baby Money. We decided to try our luck.

Luck and Fate was on our side. It is fate that we saw Baby Money on that day as we did not see her that often everyday. We saw Baby Money eating food fed by grumpy auntie - normally we only address her as 'dog auntie'. We never once talked to her althought all of us feed the cats. If she saw us feeding cats, she will walked AWAY from us and she did not even smile or nod at us and so we never bother each other also. She feed her cats and we feed our cats at different timing.

Ok back to luck was on our side. Pi Pa came to kapo and chased Baby Money away, stealing her food. We left greedy pipa eating and went to search for baby Money. We met Lady Luck again when we saw her at the playground. Sister grabbed her neck and we walked all the way home this way. On our way home, X called Sister again and i answered the phone on behalf. I confirmed with X that the potential couple want a not so old but not so young cat. The answer is a positive yes as the couple only wanted a cat that is of siamese X.

I once came across some particular idiot that refused to take a particular community cat as she commented that the potential adopter only wanted a baby kitten and BTW, the cat was only 2 months old and cat will grow big anyway. It is hard to understand why sometimes - and anyway cat adoption is not always 100% sucessful but i think the reason given by that potential adopter is the stupidness i had heard and that idiot i met actually played alone by agreeing to ONLY look for BABY kitten in the street.

Baby Money on Blood Bed. She got a funny looking tail actually, the tip of her tail is tucked in between her lengs. She is very manja and love to jump on the bed to join people

Mum said must put our own fortune cat beside Baby money

Baby Money asking for attention? No lar. Actually, she is kneading her front paws, she did this action like for the One thousand times.

Money and Money - Spot the real Money? hmm... Real Money looked a bit scared hor!!

The King of the Cats.... In ur House, who is the KING?

Ma Ling Shu(MLS) with tongue sticking out (BOO!!), Big black, whitie

Bao Bei - The King in the room

MLS taking a short break for her eyes

Beautiful Coco looking very elegant

Sister went to V's house to see his cats. V told sister that in every cat colony, there is always a king.

We then decided that sweetie is the queen of our cat family.
This is decided from a number of reason why Sweetie deserved to be Mother Queen and Not Princess DD.

1) Whenever Sweetie is on my bed, none of the cats dare to jump on the same bed. That is why Poor Ah DU always sleep elsewhere now.

2) When sweetie give her majestic roar, none of the cats dare to come near her. This is esp when i am feeding her dry food

3) When sweetie flash her 'Come near and i will bite' evil look at the other cats, the others are alway smart enought not to go near her

4) Sweetie sleep whatever place she likes - including xiami's sleeping place. Xiami used to sleep on sister's desk until sweetie decided to claim this area as her own. BTW, sweetie and xiami are arch enemies(Do visit this website, it give a number of cat words). Both cannot stand each other - xiami will hiss at sweetie and sweetie will chase xiami

So why Princess DD do not had the honour of being the queen of the batch, a princess is also very good anyway. Here is why:

1) Friendly to any cats. will hiss at them but only for a short while. A queen seldom love every cats.

2) Get bully by sweetie very often - i had seen sweetie chasing DD all over the house. Poor DD ended up with a 'bush bush' tail.

3) Alway sleeping next to the toilet. We had called her 'toilet auntie' where we need to pay her 10 cents to use our toilet. (HA!!!). Do a queen ever sleep next to the toilet?

4) Allow us to hug her like a baby.

Xiami's photo on her way to Germany....

Really, Xiami had now fly to Germany or rather her photo is in a airplane....

Xiami with her xiami custom-made postcard before it was posted - Noted that double chin!!!

Other Postcards made by sister to thank her friends for helping in Harmony Pillar

Xiami cannot bear to had her postcard sent overseas so she wanted us to take more photos.

Sister had made some custom-made postcard - one for blood in Germany, the rest for her pals that helped her in Harmony pillar. I thought xiami's photos with herself is the funniest. The Second photo showed that xiami had a sudden double chin - so fat and round face. I had to hold her to get her to keep still.

This evening, I took hold of xiami with a blanket to get sister to apply eye lotion to her eyes. Xiami's eyes are improving but there is still a slight cloud on her eyes. When i took hold of her, xiami screamed like 'kill pig'.

Then all of the sudden, My group of cats decided that sisterhood is more important than their 'mummy' that feed them.

1) Ah Du took a painless bite at my fat leg
2) DD jumped on the bed and stared at xiami with all her fur standing
3) sweetie jumped down from her sleeping area, looked up at us in concern

I am so surprised that my cats had reacted this way. all right, i had 'bullied' their younger sister but the notty gal need a good wash for her eyes. maybe the next time, i will chase all the 'kapo' cats out of the room before we take xiami for her eye wash.

Xiami had improved a lot from our care. She used to hiss at our hands whenever we went near her. Now, she is not scared of us. She will purr when we touch her head. Meow when she wants us to feed her. Rub us when we are near her. Her favourite time is to fight with DD and Ah Du. Maybe xiami is a lucky cat as sister said that initally, she had not wanted to catch xiami @ ECP but somehow, xiami was still caught and ended up in our house since Jan this year.

Project Kucing Coast Harmony Pillar @ Ngee Ann City

With the help of Sister's friends, Sister had finally produced her own harmony pillar that will be displayed in Ngee Ann City tml and sun (26 & 27 May). Tml, sister will be going to Ngee Ann City to give a 2 min presentation on her work. Sunday, she will received the certificate(s) of participation. We will be going down on Sunday to take a look at the completed work.

Sister spent three weeks designing the work with her friend, S that came to our house to make the decorations. I had not helped in this project. I only gave some suggestion in the initial planning of what can be done but i do not know if sister had taken my suggestion. Hmm..i think she had taken my suggestion for the colour of the paint. And i had told sister to use lot of pictures after watching Donald Trump reality show "Apprentice" where the loser group with lengthy words in advertisement were always be eliminated. A picture tells a thousand words, so a cat picture will tell a thousand stories of its past and future.

If u see the Harmomy pillar(In the Animal Rescue Pillar), you will see the 'Before and After' look of Xiami. I cannot recognized the 'Before' picture of Xiami, she looked so different. Xiami is now fat and fatter. She will often meow at me to beg for food and even jumped on my bed to rub me if i ignore her. Ya, i had to ignore her as i felt that she had eaten too much...she is starting to have a belly - i can almost asked her to join Sweetie and Dd to do some belly-dancing.

Ma Ling Shu and Coco are also featured in the piller. MLS looked very well-groomed - the result of good care. ya - foster daddy is doing a good job at taking care of MLS. Coco is still as sweet as before - purring loud when she is happy.

Hooray for the First Harmony Pillar of the cats of East Coast Park.... :)

Idiots, please stop abandoning ur cats

Jennifer say:

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

For the past 4 to 5 months, there are 4 kittens (around 4-5 months old) that were abandoned near my neighbourhood. The latest to be abandoned is a pure black kitten. She is very sweet. Yesterday, when i hold her to check on her, she had purr real loud. She is the exact clone of our house Ah-Du - pure black with a hooked tiny tail. She had a slight eye infection..today, we will tried to apply eye lotion on her eye. When we saw her yesterday, she was playing with her tail and did not even cried at all. It is a pity that such a cute kitten will be a stray.I had placed her back to the same hideout..hopefully she will be 'safe' from the cruel human world.

Cat 2 is a fierce tabby that is feed by Auntie L but i do not know if it is still in the same hideout. Cat 3 is a tame brown tabby kitten that we used to see for 2 to 3 weeks is now missing.. hope she will be all right.

I saw another new black and white tabby(Cat 4) last week for one day before she/he vanished too but that kitten is real scared.

I wonder whom is the stupid fellow that keep on leaving cats down the place where we usually feed our community cats. It is hard to find whom put the kittens there but certainly some fool think that just because there are feeders giving the cats meals, it is 'OK' to abandone the cats. If only that idiot know the risk he/she put on the other community cats. Someone can just made a call to the 'devil' to ask for 'removal of the cats'.

It is really heart-breaking to see the kittens running around in the street.. Cat 1 (black) and Cat 3 is not even scared of human. I can only just tried to feed the cats that i found on the street and hope they will be safe.*sigh*

Poor PiPa

This is Pipa, one of our neighbourhood community cat. He was found limping on the front paw since Monday. Pipa was actually limping last week but the limping was gone after one day so we thought he is ok. He must have an injury at that time and that injury become infected so he limped again. Despite having a injured paw, Pipa never failed to 'escort' us back to the lift while hopping on his 3 stronger legs. This is so sweet of him so we had actaully waited for him in case any cars come by. We also had to watch out for 'Jackie', a Jack Russell whom stayed at our block. The owner will always take jackie out at the time when we feed mimi and friends.

Today, sister and I manged to catch him and send him to the vet. Catching pipa was a breeze, i merely pop him into the carrier without him protesting. The carrier needed to be placed with the opening facing me so that i can just placed him inside and not pushed him from the front. I think pipa is in pain so he did not struggled at all. Pipa was very quiet while he was in our house. Dad and sister then took pipa to the vet in dad's (or blood) motorbike.

According to the vet, Pipa had two bite on his paws (probably casued by Koala - another male that is still not sterilized). Pipa had a mild infection and a fever. We had put pipa in the clinic for one week as our hands are full with da bao, xiao boa, HeHe and xian xian.

The cats 'Gong Gong' @ Dad's workplace

Jennifer say:

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Remember the three cats at Dad's workplace.
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

The three brothers (only the black cat is not the true blood brother but they are still brothers)

We had managed to sterilize all those three cats. There is only one last kitten that needed to be sterilized and of course, Hehe and Xian Xian when they returned to dad's workplace.

We had sterilized the cat with the white fur yesterday. We are quite surprised that he is so tame. We can even pat him without him protesting. Mum had named him 'An An'. His other brother is called 'Ping Ping'. Together, their names stand for 'Ping An' (Safe).

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
An An - super tame cat with good temper.

Dad do not have any names for any of his cats. All of them respond to 'meow meow' when dad called them for food.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
This black cat was sterilized last month

The area where the cats are in were certainly not a ideal place for cats. There were these two cats that we had sterilized but they had now went missing in dad's workplace. We assumed that someone had caught the cats as cats will not likely to leave from their terriority esp if there are food. So we are worried for the safetly of HeHe and XianXian when they are released back into the warehouse(dad workplace).

Dad is currently feeding five cats - An An, Ping Ping, mummy cat, kitty cat and Blackie. All are sterilized except for little kitty cat. If we do not have anyone adopting hehe and xian xian, they will join the group of 5 when they know how to eat soft food. But i think we will be buying a cage to keep them safe as they are still tiny. Currently, they are still on milk bottle but i am using a syringe to feed them instead as their rubber nipples are being chewed to a big hole by them.

Da Bao & Xiao Bao from ECP

Remember sister's blog that mentioned the two kittens with flu and mites. Sister had took them home. The white nose one is called da bao. As usual, mum had gave them these names. Da Bao is more quiet than xiao bao.
Xiao bao is the 'notty notty' cat in our house now. Most of the meow-oh come from him.

8 to 9 unsertilized cats near my neighbourhood.

Jennifer say:

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Yesterday, sister received news that there are 8 to 9 unsertilized cats near our area. Sister contacted a cat lover, S whom said that she will be asking vincent to help trap those cats for sterilization.

I am not familiar with the area there. So sister and I decided to check on how bad was the situation there yesterday.

While we were walking toward the carpark with the cat problem, we meet 3 friendly cats at another block. I then recognised one of the cats to be 'kang kang'. Kang Kang is another abandoned cat that appeared in our area last dec. Mum gave the new cat that name, Kang Kang as he is found in the Econ minimkt in front of our area's main road.

Kang Kang is very friendly - he is so friendly that he was relocated from his hideout many times. He was initially in the mini mkt area..then he shifted to the opposite block (there is a big road seperating the two blocks so obivously someone had carried Kang kang there), sister then took Kang Kang back to the minimkt as Kang Kang is too close to the bus-stop.Then Kang Kang appeared at our area's small park playground.

Kang Kang will disappeared for many days before reappearing again. Yesterday was the first time i saw Kang Kang after more than 10 days. This time, Kang Kang appeared at many blocks away from the last place he appeared in. (the playground).

Some idiot cut poor Kang Kang's whisker. Kang Kang seem to recognise us when we called him. I took him up and hug her. Then another girl, H appeared and said hi to us. H said that she only fed the cats in her block but we were happy to chat to her.

We then left Kang Kang to check on the carpark behind the CC. We did saw around 6 cats - all unsterilized. The cats were quite hungry as they were eating rubbish that people had throw down from their kitchen unit. One of the reason why the carpark's cats were complained is also because of the litter in this area. But from what i had seen, i think the rubbish were throw from the kitchen down to the ground below. Then the cats will come to eat the rubbish. It is not because there are feeders around leaving food. There may be feeders but we did not seen anyone yesterday. I also seen a familiar male cat(Dua-Tao) that was unsterilized. This male cat used to stay in our block nearby before he shifted to the carpark. Our cat, sweetie used to be good friend with him before we 'kidnapped' sweetie from her sweetheart.

Auntie L had said that the cat is too old so cannot sterilized. I wonder if it is true - old cat do not need to sterilized but can still mate with females? I find Auntie L explanation ironic. As a cat lover that is active in sterilizing cats, Auntie L had told me that old cats will not need to be sterilized as they may died. Yet, those old male cats are mating around in the area, reproducing little male cats.

S had known of this situation here after sister called her. S will be arranging with her vet for sterilization those cats. I hope Dua tao will also be trapped. Despite of Auntie L's theory, i still think that duo tao need to stop shifting his territory to find new wives and becoming father of little homeless small dua tao(male) and xiao tao(female).

Charming Little Ginger Queen, Coco playing with her toy (Cat from ECP waiting for adoption)

Cutie sweet Shu Shu willing for a hug from me. She loved me to carry her and did make any protest to be let down at all. (Cat from ECP waiting for adoption)

Brownie, the cute guy wanting a pat on his chin. He is also another purring cat that do not mind hugs. (Cat from ECP waiting for adoption)

My favorite cat with clear blue eyes. I love cats with blue eyes but my own cats do not have it. All of them only have owl's eyes or tiger's eyes. DD esp looked very much like Harry Potter's Snowy.

Today, Dad took mum, sister and me to Vincent's place. This is my first visit to Vincent's place. Once we reached there, sister headed straight to the cat room. I spotted cute Coco first. Coco is the only ginger cat there so she is more outstanding. I hugged her while she purred in my arm. Sister took a while to find Shushu that had grown bigger. I also saw Brownie for the first time. All the cats from ECP are so charming and smart. I am sure their very right owners will appear to take them as house cats soon. There are around 10 cats living in harmony in the cat room.

We went out of the cat room after some fun time hugging and sayang the cats. Vincent's wife was with a large brown mongol dog. He is very tame but i am not used to touching large dogs. There is another dog called Da Bei that was locked in the other side of the house. There was a gate to prevent him to running to the front of the house. Da Bei was very excited to see visitors in the house and wanted to come to play with us. After 3 attempts, Da Bei managed to push the rock under the gate and come out. He then ran around happily while the rest of us were talking.

We were about to leave when Da Bei came along. Da Bei then jumped on his hind legs on all of us. I meant ALL as we were standing in one row 'waiting' for him to 'sayang' us humans. He kissed mum on the face. I am a bit taken back by his size and tried to hold his fat paws while pushing him down. We left at 6.35 pm.
